PREVENTION OF CERVICAL CANCER: MOTIVES THAT INFLUENCE NOT PERFORMING PAP SMEAR

Abstract

Given that cervical cancer is a major cause of morbidity rate in Brazil, a major challenge for developing countries is the expansion of prevention programs and early detection. Cancer of the cervix is a cancer that has high incidence and mortality, likely for early detection and cure when performed in its early diagnosis. There are several risk factors that lead to the involvement of this type of cancer, with HPV as the main cause. This study aimed to describe the importance of screening and the reasons why some women do not realize it. For the preparation of this review of the literature search was performed in scientific articles, books and manuals that describe the cancer, the Pap smear, and the importance of his achievement to a reduction in the incidence of new cases. The results show that lack of adherence to preventive by the female population due to factors such as lack of cervical cancer, the examination and achievement, fear and shame and other personal reasons.
