Abstract

There are numerous occupational risks that dentists are exposed, stand out biohazards, by contact with patients through aerosols as the case of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and/or organics fluids that may contain a serie of these pathogenic microorganisms leading occupational disease by the Hepatitis · Revista Bahiana de Odontologia. 2015 Abr;6(1):34-46 · 35 B Virus, Hepatitis C and Human Immodeficiency Vírus. To perform a review of the national literature about the biological risks that dental staff are exposed in workplace. National studies published between 2002-2013 were selected, about Biological Hazards in Dentistry with a focus on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Human Immnodeficiency Virus, Hepatitis B and C Virus and Herpes virus hominis. The databases used for screening were: LILACS, BBO and SciELO. Was employed search combinations: “occupational hazard”, “HIV and Dentistry”, “hepatitis and dentistry”, “Tuberculosis and Dentistry “, “herpes and Dentistry”. 86 articles were found, after careful analysis, were selected 14 articles that fit in the thematic proposal. Five of selected studies were literature review (35.7%) and nine were cross-sectional studies (64.2 %). Studies aimed at elucidating biological risks that the dental staff are exposed. The dental staff are exposed to biological hazards in your work area, and that are preventable through immunization and biosafety protocols.
