NURSING CARE IN THE PREOPERATIVE PERIOD AND ITS INFLUENCE ON POSTOPERATIVE: A PATIENT’S PERCEPTION

Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the patient’s perception in the preoperative period on nursing care and its influence on postoperative. A descriptive research, with quantitative nature due to use of numerical data, was performed. Data collection was made through a multiple-choice questionnaire. Data were collected on the ward, in the postoperative phase of a private hospital in the city of Vitória da Conquista, state of Bahia, Brazil. Descriptive statistics was used to present the data. The results were the prevalence of females (69.23%), and the elementary school (30.77%) among participants. Those who knew the name of your surgical terminology (51.28%). The customers who were advised preoperative period about the surgery, it was found (64.10%) and those who understood what was spoken were (66.67%). Feelings more evidenced by customers were anxiety (43.60%). The technical nursing, nurse and physician (25.64%) and only the physician (20.51%) were the professionals most guided some of the participating patient. The qualification of the nursing team evaluated by customers were prevalent the good and the great (38.46%). The study showed that lack of information / guidelines provided by the nurse in the preoperative phase hinders comprehension and cause misunderstandings by the patient, therefore there is a need to implement new practices, such as nursing prescription, providing a customized care and minimizing possible complications.
