Abstract

Sickle cell anemia is a genetic blood disease characterized by a mutation in the hemoglobin gene, creating an abnormal molecule of hemoglobin. This irregular form makes it difficult to pass by the blood net, resulting in a painful crisis, fatigue and appetite lack. Sometimes the abnormal cells block the blood flow to the tissues and organs, causing pain, characterizing the sickle cell crisis. This pain could be so intense that the patient can be hospitalized. Due to presence of the blood vessels in the all body the injuries can happened in any part. The proposal of this article is to show the main general and oral manifestations founded in carriers of sickle cell anemia.
