Introduction: Burnout syndrome (SB) is a condition associated with poor quality of life for workers with physical and mental consequences, resulting from excessive exposure to occupational stressors and affecting work, including dentists and students. This concept has spread among students assuming that they are constantly exposed to the stress of the evaluative environment. Early diagnosis is essential and helps to plan and execute the prevention and fight against this syndrome. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of Burnout syndrome in dental students in a private institution. Materials and methods: To perform this study we used the Maslach Burnout inventory - students version (MBI-SS). Results: The prevalence of individuals susceptible to Burnout Syndrome in the sample was 11.5%. Men have low scores of professional efficacy compared to women (p-value = 0.026). For the other dimensions, no statistically significant relationship was observed. No relationship was detected between each dimension and the presence of SB, the age or the period of the course. Conclusion: Burnout syndrome affects people during academic life and can cause harm in the life of the affected individual. It is necessary to have special attention to the individual exposed to the causal factors performing the early diagnosis.
