INTEGRATION AND OPERATION OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS RESIDENTS IN A HOSPITAL EMERGENCY SERVICE: EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

The gateway to the health care system is the emergency and hospital emergency service. Objective: to report the experience of members of the first HGRS Intensive Care and Emergency Physical Therapy residency group in the emergency unit of a high complexity hospital. Materials and Methods: descriptive report of experience, based on the insertion of the physiotherapist in the emergency department of a large public hospital, located in the city of Salvador-Bahia. Results: The insertion of the physiotherapist residing in the emergency room was due to an increase in the demand for physiotherapeutic assistance in a continuous way, where previously there was a high mortality rate, prolonged hospital stay and high financial expenses. Conclusion: the insertion of the resident physiotherapist in the context of the Intensive Care and Emergency Units, as a professional of the public health system, expands the comprehensive and multidisciplinary assistance model.
