SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH IN THE CONTEXT OF PRISON: EXPERIENCES OF PRISIONERS OF SALVADOR-BA

Abstract

The increase in the female prison population with pregnant women more and more entered into this reality is questioned how these women experience their sexuality and how the sexual and reproductive health have been configured in this context. The study aims to understand the experience of pregnant and puerperal women prisoners about to the sexual and reproductive health in the prison; to trace the sexual and reproductive profile and to identify the actions and nursing care related. This is a field study with qualitative approach to the female prison population of pregnant and puerperal women from a prison in Salvador, Bahia, where 06 interviews were conducted. Through the content analysis of the interviews were determined three categories: 1) sexual and reproductive profile of pregnant and puerperal women private of freedom, 2) sexual and reproductive health in the prison, 3) experiencing sexuality in the prison context: different experiences and question of gender. Sexual and reproductive health is still assisted superficially, with little focus on female sexuality, requiring greater involvement of educational institutions and training of professionals to work in this reality. The lack of regulation of conjugal visits and effective public policies favoring non-compliance of these guaranteed women rights and gender relation relates decisively with sexual rights.
