Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the midwifery nursing to women during the periods of labor and birth in a Childbirth House from the perspective of the parturient. METHOD: This is a descriptive and qualitative study with seven women assisted in a Birthing Center in a Birthing Center in northern Minas Gerais. Data were collected in August 2019 through a semi-structured interview and analyzed using the “Content Analysis” technique from Bardin's perspective. RESULTS: Two categories of analysis emerged: “Comprehensiveness and longitudinality in nursing care” and “Strategies of care and promotion of women's autonomy” that pointed out conducts of respect for the autonomy and physiology of labor, in addition to adopting non-pharmacological practices for the relief of pain and the guarantee of the presence of a companion and family support in labor. CONCLUSION: Nursing care for women in labor indicates a humanized midwifery, bonding and empathic relationship guided by comprehensive and longitudinal care. These behaviors can break negative feelings towards professionals, nursing care and the act of giving birth.
