Abstract

OBJECTIVES: To describe the legal responsibility of the obstetric nurse in childbirth care. METHODS: An integrative literature review was carried out, using publications available on LILACS and MEDLINE databases, through the Virtual Health Library, with publication in the last 10 years. RESULTS: From the exhaustive reading of the articles, two categories of analysis were identified: the Brazilian obstetric nursing legislation and professional responsibility, from the ethical, penal and civil points of view. CONCLUSION: The nurse obstetrician needs to know the legislation that governs his work, providing a better assistance and delimiting his rights and duties in his journey.
