Gender aspects associated with fear of driving

INTRODUCTION: Fear of driving is a emotional condition that causes a significant level of suffering, limiting possibilities and estimated to occur predominantly in women. AIM: to discuss gender aspects that are related to fear of driving in woman. METHOD: narrative revison, investigating papers related to fear of driving and gender. The sources were books, artciles and dissertations published beetween 2010 and 2020, excluding studies that did not correspond to the guiding research question or that were not full available. The databases used were: PsycINFO, BVS-PSI, Journal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, the personal library of the authors and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. RESULTS: The aspects indicate on the literature that may contribute to the driving fear being most usual and intense in woman is: social gender roles, cultural association that traffic is a male space, woman’s perception about their performance beeing always evaluated, absence of encouragement from the family and no woman as a driver model. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Cultural and social aspects may be related to the conservation of driving fear in woman. It is suggested a further study, to analyses different perceptions and experiences in traffic, related to gender aspects.Downloads
