Abstract

The article presents some contributions of German philosopher Martin Heidegger’s thought to the understanding of health. In his well-known book, Being and Time, Heidegger formulates a phenomenologically based  Existential Analytic which aims to overcome Metaphysics. Reviewing the understanding about human being and its relationship with the world, the philosopher introduces a renewed conception of man away from subject/object and body/mind traditional dualisms. Consequently if health is comprehended in light of Heidegger’s human being view, biomedical model deficiencies like biological emphasis and decontextualization could be surpassed.
