ANALYSIS OF THE FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITY AND AVALIATION METHODS OF UPPER EXTREMITY IN WOMEN UNDER THE BREAST CANCER TREATMENT - A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Abstract

Introduction: The complications of cancer treatment for breast cancer decrease muscle strength and range of motion members involved and can harm the return to routine activities. The objective of this study was a systematic review of the literature on functional capacity and valuation methods and resources of the upper extremity used by physical therapy in women diagnosed with breast cancer. Methods: It is a Systematic Review study that was conducted by PRISMA methodology. The scientific articles on the theme were searched in databases BIREME and PubMed between the periods of 2000-2015, focusing on clinical trials. Results:Eight articles were included for analysis with a sample total of 579 women undergoing cancer treatment.The overall score resulting from assessing the quality these studies was 2.3 and all of them described alterations functionality of the upper limbs. Conclusion: It is noticed that the DASH and goniometry were the assessment instruments most cited in the literature. The most common signs and symptoms in this population were lymphedema, pain, reduced muscle strength and decreased range of motion. The resulting functional changes of cancer treatment are dealt with and identified by the physiotherapist in order to enable patients to early return to their activities of daily living.
