Abstract

Introduction: Low-power laser (LBL) is a type of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation widely used in physiotherapeutic practice and presents significant results in the treatment of various disorders, when the device complies with technical standards. When such equipment is flawed, it can lead to ineffective treatment and can lead to harm to the health of the patient and therapist. Objective: To evaluate LPL equipment in use in clinics in the city of Cascavel - PR. Methods: It was used according to the technical standards NBR IEC 601-2-22, IEC 60825-1 and TR IEC 60825-8, containing Requirements for inspections to be carried out in the equipment manual, the equipment itself, the protectors and the environment of use, and the measurement of the radiated power. Results: A total of 9 equipment were evaluated, only 1 (11.11%) presented all the items required in the evaluation form and in relation to the power measurement, only 2 (22.22%) were within the limits allowed. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate a serious problem about the quality of LBP equipment in the city of Cascavel – PR.
